[android] School Google Mail account on personal phones

Hi All,

 

Over the summer we made the change to Google Apps for Education through RealSmart. We have been setting up iPhones and Windows phones with the gmail apps and calendars ok, but am having trouble with android. I'm not an android user and there seems to be slight variations between each model of phone but it looks as though all of their contacts and messages are linked with their google account. I dont seem to be able to add another google account and I don't seem to be able to retain the data ie messages and contacts if I remove the personal account. Does anyone have any tips on what to do here?

Can't you just go to settings accounts google and add a new one?

If you use the Gmail app - open the app and then go to settings (usually accessed by pressing the bottom left 'menu' button). Once in settings you should see 'Add Account' in the top right. Then just follow the onscreen instructions and hopefully that will give you what you want. Works for me anyway.

It may depend on the version of Android. I had no trouble adding my school Google Apps account as a second account on my phone running 4.1, and I can now switch between the accounts in Gmail, Google Drive, Analytics, Keep, and almost every other Google app (with the notable exception of the Play store).
