Point to point wifi?

We have someone staying in a local B&B whilst they're training at the school and as part of that, they need to be able to skype their kids around the world.

 

3G signal here is, let's just say 'less than usable'.

 

So, I was thinking about hooking them up to our network via a point to point setup. The B&B is about 50m away.

 

I'm looking at Ubiquiti's NanoStations, but which to get?? Ubiquiti Nanostation - 4Gon Solutions

I have some of the M5 Ubiquiti ones for network signal out to one of our huts that there was no easy way to run a cable without digging up the road.

 

It must be 50-100m and works fine, well until a seagull lands on it and knocks it out of place and i have to get up a ladder to move it back as i had to yesterday!

 

From what i could see they are only on the ball and socket type joint with no way of tightening it with an alan key, missed a trick there i think!

oh and just another point they do draw alot of power my poe+ HP switch doesnt power it, it has to have its own poe injector at both ends!

We use Ubiquiti NanoStations for some hard to reach HD cctv locations. Has been rock solid (throughput and stability), and very easy to set up. The RF tools which are built in are also very handy when it comes to tuning the system.

I don't see how this is any problem for the school, or something the school should have to rectify.

You are very lucky if you have the funds to resolve non school related problems.

Has he thought about changing B&B to one with wifi?

 

The way training works is different now, its something about us selecting them to come train here as part of School Direct or something. So, as a nice employer we are being helpful.

 

EDIT: Turns out she wants to call from here, so this was all entirely pointless...
