how to open a .exr file

I have been sent a document to open but it is a .exr file. Does anyone know how to open it?

You need photoshop and the OpenEXR extension.

After some google-ing, the only thing I can see .exr mentioned as, is as an image format for HDR images which should open in Photoshop. Can't find any document files of that type :/

Thanks guys. The document is meant to be a form with about 5 pages on it but can only view the 1st page.
