Google in IE appearing blank and needs to be scrolled

Since the holidays some staff have been reporting that when they load up IE, the page is blank and to get to Google (or presumably any home page) they need to scroll wayyyy down.

 

I've tried it on an affected PC and it happens for me too. What is confusing is what could be causing it. It's a mixture of newly imaged and older machines (though have all probably got up to date IE10).

 

I've tried disabling the proxy temporarily, still occurs. Tried running IE without Add-ons - still occurs.

 

Anyone seen this and have any ideas?

I don't have an answer for you i'm afraid but I wanted to add that we have just started to encounter the exact same issue and trawling the internet has led me to find this post.

 

Similar circumstances whereby we have just spent the summer rolling out a fresh windows image which included IE10. Everything still works but its very strange that it loads with a perfect chunk of white space above google proper. Just large enough to knock it off screen with scrollbars.

 

We are just sat debating it at the moment, wondering if it could be older group policy settings for IE9 causing it or settings stored in the user profiles from IE9. Clutching at straws at this stage

Newly imaged Win7 PC, IE10 only happens with Google. As an aside if someone edits something in Moodle all of the text is deleted. Scratching head, only one PC so far.

OK logged onto another Win7 ie10 PC (as admin) and no problem

 

Guess need to try as user?

 

No works OK as test user.

No and not in ie9 mode either.

We are still having no joy tracking down the cause of this as of yet. It only appears to be happening to a handful of staff machines. Still looking.. IE10 and smart notebook 11 with smart ink are the only new softwares on them... Have you had any luck E_G_R2?

Interesting, just upgraded to Smart Notebook 11 but not as part of image so IE10 worked on PC without Smart Notebook 11.

 

Havn't been working on this today but could be a link with Smart Notebook if we both have this?

Try disabling smart Ink and see if that solves it.

 

We have that problem here with google and a few other sites like education city, and disabling smart ink fixes it.

Legend, thanks for discovering that. All of the affected PCs here have been upgraded to Smart 11. Explains why I couldn't get it to occur when using a student machine

Yep, I spotted the exact same thing on Tuesday (have been too busy to post, sorry!). I'd already disabled the SMART Ink office plugins as they were causing Office 2013 to crash a lot, but have now turned it off completely. OWA 2010 was the worst, the entire page was blank, no scrolling at all. Glad it's not just us, to be honest, but seriously, SMART need to get this sorted.

At the request of all teachers I have removed Smart Ink, it was stealing focus on their PC's.

Is there an easy way to disable Smart Ink without going round every PC? My plan was to have a reg file with a - for remove and then run that silently as a startup script to remove it from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run to start it running on startup but it seems there is no way to delete a single value from within a key, only the key itself

Now is the time to learn about Group Policy Preferences. It's how I manage all my registry changes.

You're right, it is. It's weird, I use GPP for some things but for others I seem to stick with the older more difficult way!

Oh good, at least you won't have much of a learning curve. Funnily enough the registry stuff in GPP is probably the one part I find actually works 100% reliably, so you should find it pretty straightforward.

I always get issues with IE

OK Smart (or not) Ink is now needed by the staff to use the tools on none notebook stuff. Anyone got around this ballsing up IE and the other bugbear, not being able to use presentation mode Power Point. Feel the need to role back a version or two

Thought we were the only ones with this problem. From what we have found smart ink injects a little bit of HTML into each page which b@ggers things up. Seems to only effect a few pages for us' YouTube, echalk, swgfl staff proxy page. All machines affected are win7, ie10, notebook 11.3

 

Also just found out that if users switch user, smart ink will not work for any other user that logs on. Amazing bit of software.

We have this problem also - on Win7, IE10 and our new SmartBoards.....
