Hi Guys,

The MD has asked me to take a look at a system to monitor who is at their desk for phone calls etc. As we are on 2 floors it would save the admin ringing around to find if they are in the building or not. Also for health and safety reasons.

I'm leaning towards a fob system on both our entrances so we can see who is in and out of the building but is there a better way?

We need all the staff to be able to check who is in and out and the user to be able to automatically set them self's in or out.

Iv been told that phone systems can do it but sadly our system doesn't support this.

Jabber server and client on internal network. This way internal messaging can be done, everything is logged, and when people log in, it should be the first thing they open (can also be set to auto open on log in). Works for my company! This way we know who is in, and who is out.

Unless you have a unified comms system that will follow people around or forward calls to mobile/radio etc... how to do you ensure that just because they are logged in means that they are at their desk?

It'll cost more time and money than having the admin staff ring round.

What if they're at their desk, in their office, but their computer has been idling for >5 minutes because they're having a face to face discussion with someone in their office, or working on paper? May be entirely irrelevant to your workplace but I don't know your environment, after all :)

Yah,

Trying to work out the best way to do this. I was looking at some kind of key ring so when they are in the building it flags up or on them lines.. Found nothing :\

I have a really good idea but it would require quite a bit of coding, just looking at it now.

*Drum roll*....

Get the basic Lync online (1.30 each) - we have it here, after 5 mins of inactivity it shows you as away - is also good instant messenger and you can do internal video calls etc
