So I have about 100 HP Pro 3300 machines with a Realtek PCIe GB NIC. Last summer I discovered that, by default, WOL is disabled on the NIC in the windows settings. As I had some spare time last year I walked round and altered them all manually.

After imaging the machines I had a facepalm moment when they refused to WOL. By default the driver installs with WOL disabled.

This year I don't have the time so am trying to figure out if I can alter them all remotely. I tried altering the WOL setting for the NIC in the registry but that doesn't seem to work (it seems that when you alter that setting in the windows gui it must do something else above simply altering the registry? But I can't work out what).

I am thinking about knocking up an AutoIT script but that might actually take longer than just walking round :p

Any ideas on a quick way of doing this?

Cheers.

Was looking at the same myself, bloody network cards! Found the easiest way was to use winstall LE to package up the changes. Like you, I found registry settings that appeared to hit the spot (and confirmed those were the right settings after doing the changes manually) but obviously there's something else too.

Ahh great idea! :)

Yeah I ran a tool to compare the reg before and after the settings was switched and found the right key, then ran procmon to try and pin down what else was going on but couldn't spot anything. Something is going on but just can't see what.

Anyway the Winstall idea is perfect!
