Pars and Pars .net won't work on curric domain

Anybody come accross this problem before? Log on to PC, start sims .net, works fine. Start Pars .net, get a timeout expired error message. Try to run Pars and get the same message. Both say there is a problem with sims, either sims workstation doesn't exsist or has a problem.

 

Tried re-installing pars, sims, everything.

 

Running sims 7.93, not yet upgraded to newest version.

 

I have replaced my curric DC during the summer, I don't know if this has any issue on it.

 

Admin domain can logon fine.

This will probably be the connect.ini file in c:\program files\sims\pars .net.

 

Just on one machine, copy the connect.ini from c:\program files\sims\sims.net to the above folder and retry.

 

If they are the same or this doesnt work, change the servername= line from servername\instance to ip address\instance.

 

If this now works, it is a dns problem, so try, on that machine putting the server in the hosts file, and reverting the connect.inin back to servername\instance. Reboot and retry. If this now works, check your DNS

Thanks sjames321, it's something wrong with DNS. I don't know what yet but when I changed from server name to IP address it works fine.

Not sure if it is the same problem but since the sims update pars is showing an error message of can't create active x component. There is a fix from pars themselves for this. If anyone wants the files then mail me and i will push them out to you.

To clarify the ActiveX thing and PARS...

 

The activeX fix just regsvr32's all the CES*.dll files to re-register them. This is usually only required for corrupt registries, or SIMS installs that were setup originally under a non-machine admin account (ie not for All Users), but the patch is available (for now) at tinyurl.com/26xpsh.

 

It's actually a SIMS batch file to let you have 2 SIMS workstations on the same machine, and switch between them - (not recommended on live data!).

 

If anyone has the Cannot Create ActiveX error when starting PARS, they can copy the files to %program files%\sims\sims.net, and run Register.bat as a machine admin to register CES*.dll for all users, or as the SIMS user's network account to register for just that user.
