Combining multiple Linux servers

I'm wanting to combine our Virtualmin linux webserver (which currently runs a few internal/external websites for the school) and our Fog server onto one server.

 

* Do I need to virtualise

* If so, which solution would you advise (Hyper-V, Xen, OpenVZ

* Will Fog run alongside Webmin/Virtualmin on the same server

* Any other snags I'm likely to hit?

You could probably use apache virtual hosts (not the same as virtualisation) and keep it on one box.

That said it might be simpler to split them into discrete virtual machines.

If you do decide to split them, put them on a KVM hypervisor. oVirt

I would build 2 virtual servers on a new hosts. that way you can perform upgrades to each server platform that are required by the operation of it's service without possibly impacting the other service.

 

Personaly I would use free vMware ( in fact I do at home as well as at work)

Problem here is that as soon as you want to scale up to something more sensible you start having to throw stupid amounts of money at it.

My thought at the moment is that because the server hardware I'm wanting to use has multiple NIC's, I can have 2 for the webmin setup (internal/external), and then use a 3rd NIC for the FOG interface to save traffic on the webserver side.

+1 for oVirt and +1 for free VMWare

 

Id virtualise the lot on one box.
