Rawns Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 BBC News - Eve players stage giant online space battle This is cool. Any Geekers a part of this awesomeness?
peterp Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 We watched with interest as we (Providence) wind up fighting with Test Alliance a fair amount. It's a real shame that really noone can stand up to Goonswarm, they just have enough pilots and resources to flatten anyone they choose.
Garacesh Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Used to play a fair bit of Eve. Minmitar ftw. Parts of me really regret quitting when things like this happen, but our Corp was slowly dieing, my friends were quitting, too and I'd felt my progress has begun to 'stagnate'. Seeing how much time EVE needs now puts me off re-joining. I hear of people literally having to spend as much time on EVE as they do on their actual job. And with so many spies trying to infiltrate enemy corps, I'm not certain I'd even be able to get in anywhere. Plus, again, lack of friends to play it with puts me off re-joining, though I really did enjoy it when I first started playing. (I, personally, will not start a Pay-to-play game without a team to back me up. There's nothing worse than paying for game time and soloing for weeks until you find a clan/guild/legion/corp/whatever)
synaesthesia Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 As an avid gamer (read gamer, not someone who has a "career" in online games), why is this news?
pcstru Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 why is this news? The silly season like Christmas, keeps getting earlier.
Rawns Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 I have no interest in Sport and have no interest what so ever in hearing/reading about it on the news. This interests me, therefore I'm happy to see it reported on.
X-13 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Space battles? In the serious business spreadsheet game? What is this madness?
Sdrawkcab Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 It's a real shame that really noone can stand up to Goonswarm, they just have enough pilots and resources to flatten anyone they choose. Is this really the situation now? Ahahahaha. When I was in Goonswarm we were famous for having no money and no resources, but winning wars anyway simply due to having loads of members. We didn't even have our own capital fleet for a long time. When did that change?!
Ghostgame Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 (edited) Oh i wish, I was at the Caldari Prime live event which was really awesome. I will have to see if someone put footage up on YouTube. I must admit Eve Online is a good spectator game. Battle of Askai was another big one which someone sparked off when they jumped a titan (biggest ship in the game with a real life equivalent cost of $1400) into the middle of enemy space without an escort. Good which explains quite well what's going on. Edited August 5, 2013 by Ghostgame
Ghostgame Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 (edited) Found the video on YouTube about if anyone is interested. Not brilliant as the guy recording the footage got podded almost straight away Edited August 13, 2013 by Ghostgame
w-clarke101 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Eve Online = No RL. Well did for me for about over a year!!!
localzuk Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Eve Online = No RL. Well did for me for about over a year!!! It got me for about 3 years. Luckily, I'm now reformed and only play games more casually! It sucks you in it does. But yes, I think things like this should be reported more often - we have entire channels dedicated to sports, teams of people at news stations that report on grown men kicking a ball around a field. So, why not esports?

And you can't just play for 1 or 2 hours of EVE as you always end up playing 6, 7 or more hours a day just so you miss something, get in with a big crop and spend all you time 0.0 space...
Ghostgame Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I believe Twitch.TV has a channel for Eve Online Streams. Was quite good for when the tournament was on. Has also got stuff for Starcraft2, etc
Soulfish Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 It got me for about 3 years. Luckily, I'm now reformed and only play games more casually! It sucks you in it does. Eve got me for many years before it was even released! Was heavily involved with the community for 3 years before commercial release, testing Alpha and Beta versions of the game. Can still remember the time the devs decided to jump into the Alpha system with a titan to see what we'd do. Que everybody targeting the titan . They only told us afterwards that they'd made the titan invincible - also didn't help that being the alpha large scale in-game combat was a lag fest Was in ISD for the first 6 months of the game, but ended up leaving pretty quickly as the game just wasn't what a lot of us had hoped for. It's certainly developed a lot since I last played however!
