Files aren't in the right place

hello

I guess my problem isn't something that bad or at least i don't think it's bad, the thing is when i go to local disc it doesn't show the program files and things that are supposed to go there. I don't really know when it happend or what i did to screw it up since i tend to mess around a bit without really knowing what I'm doing. Anyways, when I go to my local disc it shows this http://i41.tinypic.com/1z6d0k9.png This is the first time i ever use a forum so if i'm doing something wrong or anything or need more information please let me know.

Are you sure they aren't hidden? Press alt then tools and Folder options. Click on View and then select Show hidden files and folders.

 

Do they then appear?

Nope, nothing appears. Same screen as before.

I should have said hit apply first. You could try a system restore to see if they reappear. Maybe run an antivirus scan as I think there may be a virus that hides them. You could also try Safe Mode to see if they appear then.

Easiest option would be trying to go to:

 

%PROGRAMFILES%

 

And see where it takes you. Just incase it's set somewhere weird. But could also be set as system file, and show system files turned off

That was my first thought too. There is a trojan that hides the Program Files, Windows and Users folders.

Agreed - sounds like some sort of malware. There is another way to hide\unhide files in Windows.... in the Folder Options screen, uncheck the box that reads Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended). Click 'Yes' to the warning, then Apply, then OK. Normally you wouldn't need to do this but its possible a virus has marked your folders as OS protected.
