Office 365 retention

Hi we have been migrated to office 365. Please could somebody tell me if its possible if we can keep all emails sent and received for aprrox 5 years. I called the live@edu team as I needed to restore emails from 3 months ago. They said that they can only retrieve emails from 14 days old. This surely cant be the case safeguarding for students and we need to be able to retrieve emails for this purpose.

You can set the retention period but for long term archiving and compliance for emails you'll need a 3rd party solution.
