All it has to do is serve up Facility/ePortal for a while until we move to our new MIS... whatever that will be.

Can I add it to the domain with no issues?

afaik - You can have it as a member server, you just cant have it as a domain controller unless your domain level is still at 2003 level.

I'm 100% certain @fiza's right. I still have a few 2003 servers and our current forest/domain function level is 2008R2. We don't have any problems. It's just the DC's that need to be same or higher.

And you have done a domain and forest prep :)

Just to update -

D2VHD then import into Hyper-V, works perfectly.

Remove its DNS and DHCP roles and demote with DCPROMO.

New name and IP addy and Roberts your Mothers Brother.

MS really are on to a winner with 2012 and Hyper-V 3 (Loving we can snapshot VDCs now)

I think you can do it on Vmware as well. I still dont like the though in doing it!

I'm hoping I never have to test it out!

Another thing to watch out for, server 2012 cant manage Hyper-V 2 or lower (anything 2008 R2 or below), it needs a separate management console.
