CHR1S Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 All it has to do is serve up Facility/ePortal for a while until we move to our new MIS... whatever that will be. Can I add it to the domain with no issues?
fiza Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 afaik - You can have it as a member server, you just cant have it as a domain controller unless your domain level is still at 2003 level. 1
CHR1S Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 Im sure you can too, just wanted to clarify. Probably just D2VHD it and test.
tmcd35 Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I'm 100% certain @fiza's right. I still have a few 2003 servers and our current forest/domain function level is 2008R2. We don't have any problems. It's just the DC's that need to be same or higher. 1
FN-GM Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 afaik - You can have it as a member server, you just cant have it as a domain controller unless your domain level is still at 2003 level. And you have done a domain and forest prep
CHR1S Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Just to update - D2VHD then import into Hyper-V, works perfectly. Remove its DNS and DHCP roles and demote with DCPROMO. New name and IP addy and Roberts your Mothers Brother. MS really are on to a winner with 2012 and Hyper-V 3 (Loving we can snapshot VDCs now)
FN-GM Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 (Loving we can snapshot VDCs now Only if the VM is server 2012.
FN-GM Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I think you can do it on Vmware as well. I still dont like the though in doing it!
CHR1S Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 I think you can do it on Vmware as well. I still dont like the though in doing it! I'm hoping I never have to test it out!
clodhopper Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I'm so glad I read this as was about to ask almost exactly the same question, 2003 server in 2012 Forest :-)
CHR1S Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Another thing to watch out for, server 2012 cant manage Hyper-V 2 or lower (anything 2008 R2 or below), it needs a separate management console.
