Your attitude towards a web server running on Client Machines

A mate of mine is developing a python webserver to serve HTML 5 pages to IOS devices to let them act as sensors/controllers for Scratch programs which effectivley means that a local machine is running a webserver.

 

What's you big boys and girls attidutude towards this running just for each logon session - not as a continouos service on desktops/laptops?

 

Obviously not an issue at all in primaries (until we start teaching them to build web apps of course:) )

Think it really depends on the school. Personally wouldn't trust kids with a local webserver, and opening firewalls/ports etc for them.

 

If you do it in such a way that it's not accessible by students, and locked down so they can't access anything, but it just runs that's different

 

But it comes back to the age old thing of I'm guessing if they can run the webserver, they can run anything else in python too?
