MS Word 2010 only prints to default printer

Not exactly as per title but we have a strange problem with MS Word 2010 on one PC

 

Setup

Shared colour printer for office (installed on Win 2003 server)

5 Win 7 pcs mapped to printer via script

printer maps ok to all printers

Printer not set to default printer

 

 

Fault

Open up word 2010 and select print\select colour printer\print, job prints fine to all other 4 pcs, but on one pc when selecting print\colour printer\print this causes word to crash (not responding)

On problem pc if you select colour printer as default printer THEN launch MS word then print job prints okay.

Put it back to the default printer for all PCs and it wont print

 

Steps to resolve problem

Re-installed print drivers locally (using advanced print driver and full drivers/software package)

repaired MS Office package

other Office packages (excel, PPT) print fine without any problem

 

Anyone any ideas as to why this could be causing an issue on this one PC?

It is a strange problem I must admit. Have you considered re-imaging if it's an option? It can save you hours of work trying to correct this problem.

Yes re-imaging i have considered but that would certainly be my last resort, it has alot of software etc.. on the pc. I Would like to really understand the problem to be honest and fix it and get to the bottom of it that way.
