LTIApply - There is not enough space on the disk

I'm trying to deploy a custom WIM to a machine with a 500GB hard drive, and I'm receiving a "There is not enough space on the disk" error after a couple hours.

 

The image is ~ 300GB.

 

I've been looking through LTIApply.log and it appears that the task sequence first copies the WIM to C:\MININT\Operating Systems\ on the target machine, then uses imagex to restore the image to the drive.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the error is because the WIM has already half-filled the drive, and there isn't enough room left over to restore the image to the drive.

 

Why does MDT first copy the WIM to the hard drive before restoring? Is this by design?

 

And is there a way to directly restore the WIM from the deployment share vs copying to the target first?

It's for a LAN café. A lot of the games don't package easily so I've installed them to the image.

at absolute worst you could boot to PE and manually apply the image. but I am unsure I have never syspreped most than updates.

might be worth reading up on imagex command line switches. maybe theres a specific one in there that might help.

If I boot into PE and manually restore the image, it works fine. However there's 20 machines and I was hoping to be able to multicast them.

ok. when you boot into PE I guess your network booting then pressing F8 to do it manually?

 

If so might be worth disabling the "Install Operating System" step and putting in your own custom command line to apply the image using imagex generally the deployment share gets mapped to Z: so path would be Z:\Tools\Imagex (or something like that) then Z:\OperatingSystems\ for the wim file.

I guess you get this message because deploying a 300GB image through the network it's a bit crazy. I guess at some point the connection comes a bit slow and the deployment can't communicate quick enough so it's saying you don't have enough space.

 

If I were you, I would prepare my image and capture it with Acronis.

Put the image on an external hard drive and deploy it manually by using a bootable USB Acronis.

The only thing you will have to do is to put the computer manually in AD.
