timbo343 Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 We have a damaged smart board which looks like the 9 pin serial connector is broken. Does anyone know where i can get a replacement circuit board for a SB580??? Thanks
wesleyw Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Steljes I would have thought would do these. They are the only supplier of smartboards in this country every one else has to buy them from this distributor. However depending on the age of the smartboard you may have warranty left so you will not have to pay too much for the replacement. Depends if it was malicious damage or not? Wes
nicholab Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 The interface card is ~=£230 pounds we had to replace one. If the actual card is not broken get a new connector and solder it on or create a fly lead to a D sub.
Paul_L Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I agree with nicholab, you will have to buy another, if it has been damaged it will not be covered by warrenty and will cost £150 - 250 As wesleyw says Steljes are the only distributor in the country and all suppliers have to go to them.
timbo343 Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 I got a few prices, cheapest was about £110, but last night bought a new capacitor and managed to find a serial connector, soldered them back to the board... jobs a good'un

mrjbeach Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Sorry to open an old thread but as a total newbie I am unable to send a PM so here goes... Timbo - you said "only thing now is.. when you draw a straight line, you get like little hills in the straight line... i know how to solve it on the newer modles but that model.... " Please, please, please can you tell me how you solve this problem?? I am trying to find a solution to this problem for a couple of our primarys. Ta, Jack:hat:
jopijedd Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Have a look at this: http://www2.smarttech.com/kbdoc/1418 I found it whilst trying to sort out something completely different about a poxy fartboard.
mrjbeach Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Thanks for that - I think they've already tried that though. The more I think about it, the more I think that the board is busted. Are these boards supposed to have a finite life? I'll have to keep on playing. Jack
timbo343 Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 @MrJBeach: We have some of the newer 660 boards which are fixed to metal walls. We found http://www2.smarttech.com/kbdoc/1418 sorted the problem but we had sorted it back in 2006. Which boards are you using? Tim
SimpleSi Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Some (I would estimate about 25%) of the 5xx series boards are very bad at holding their calibration/do not calibrate properly. Smartboard have NEVER publicly admitted this "fault" (which irritates me immensly ) and I know of no method of fixing them. I don't know if its down to the membrane board itself, the controller board or the USB/serial convertors. To see if the UK distributor will sort out replacements under guarantee, find the serial number (next to 9 pin connector underneth board_, register the board and then ring Steljes. I have had some very very bad experiences with their support and I'd rather have a finger-nail pulled out than deal with them but YMMV. regards Simon
