The only thing there under my married name is a reference to a letter I wrote to the Independent once. So I really should use my married name as I am apparently unique then (foreign name y'see, which is why I don't use it!)

My nick is a biochemical researcher (strange as this was the area I wanted to go into up until I was 18 and realised that sport was more fun!), a rather lame 'h4><0r' from Holland (I think), an amateur poker player and some strange bloke with a fixation about computers.

I too was concerned by the blatant disregard for any kind of security, how many times have you used your mothers maiden name for a security question?

 

 

The trick here is to "lie" for these questions - most of the companies using "mother's maiden name" as a security question don't need to know that her name was "Jones" before marriage - they just need something which you know that others probably don't. If you answer questions like this with something which you can remember but others won't be able to know then you are much more secure.

 

Similarly, if you have 2 bank accounts, there's nothing to stop you telling one bank that your birth town was Manchester and another that the town was London etc. (You do, of course, have to remember the answers you've given but that's always part of the trade off between security and ease of use)
