Kingstech Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Hi we are looking at companies that do fibre termination in Devon. We need to run a new fibre cable between 2 cabs but can't terminate it. Does anyone know of any good contacts? Thanks in advance
Kingstech Posted June 26, 2013 Author Posted June 26, 2013 Buy some pre-terminated? Ben How does that work @plexer? I've never seen them before.
m25man Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 You mean that you don't have one of these... I thought everyone had one in their tool bag nowadays? Only Joking... a decent installer will have one of these and will knock out 4 joints in no time, it doesn't cost anywhere near as much as it used to the ends are all pre made they just strip the cable and splice a pre made end onto it. Our contractor does one every few minutes, your problem is your in Devon and you only have a couple of joints to splice - it doesn't cost much more to have 16 ends spliced than it does 4. The most expensive bit is the labour and tool hire. It normally costs us about £500 to have them come out and join a cut fibre. So the pre made solution suggested may well be your easiest option especially if you can pull it yourself.

Where are they based?
synaesthesia Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 You mean that you don't have one of these... I thought everyone had one in their tool bag nowadays? I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing is happening. I'm assuming by the fact that my copper change is bouncing off my screen, it costs a little more than £2.51?
kearton Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 You mean that you don't have one of these... I thought everyone had one in their tool bag nowadays? ooooh nice. I bet they're pricey to buy...
nicholab Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 That worrying I know that the Fusion Splicer would be posted by looking a the front page.
southhamster Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Always had good experience with ijcannings.co.uk Not the cheapest but done properly and not staple gunned to the walls.......
caffrey Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 remember with preterm you have a large "sock" encasing the pre termed ends, usually requires big holes in walls 1
Kingstech Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Hi all, Thanks for the information. Not seen pre terminated fibre before. As it's only a shortish run (about 30m) we are going to go with pre terminated fibre. With regards to the patch panel for it, do you need anything special? Or will a standard panel be ok?
bclarke Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 If you need assistance give these guys a call. http://www.trilan-it.com/ They are based in Devon and are a great company.
truebluesteve Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Videk do some pre terminated cables that are designed to be pulled in easily and without much risk of damaging the cable. They are more expensive than standard pre terminated though 1
