Anyone know off hand where to submit a feature request/suggestion to Capita for SIMS please?

You'll need to log a change request then tell as many people as you can to vote for it by the CR number you get, as there's no other way of searching for them (stupid design!)

 

Log on to SupportNet, then go to Support > Change Requests. Right hand side of the screen is a link to create a new request.

The wish for a flag or column in the attendance register page so the registrar/teacher can see at a glance which students may have special needs. Currently the only way to do this would be to go into each individual student's file which isn't exactly what anyone would do. It need only be a small flag maybe to notify the registrar that that student may be dyslexic, have ADHD etc which they can click into for details, or a column at the end of the row (there's plenty of space!) with a very brief note. Information already exists within SIMS so seems simple to implement.

If you right click in the students name column on the register, you can get up the SEN status. Would this not be enough? Because surely you would not want the SEN details of the student displayed on the board for all to see, data protection and all that!? Plus it may make the child feel insecure about their needs in front of their peers! Edited June 25, 2013 by jrma91

Good point later on, but like I said, all it needs is a flag. No, it's not enough to go into each student - what sort of teacher would honestly click into each of 30 kids if they don't know them to find all that out? Not one.

A little flag to warn the teacher is all it needs which is clickable. And the less said about any sort of teacher that has the register up on the projector in the first place, the better.

The picture above shows how our registers appear. Would this not be enough for the teacher? Or are you looking for more detailed SEN need?

Pain in the backside that you can't delete change requests on supportnet! Suppose I have to leave it there to look like a muppet That's what I get for being too preoccupied with fuming at Xerox!

For us O means other educational need, for example those who have dyslexia but are not severe enough to be on School Action.

The flag is still a good idea, as it would be set globally, as opposed to getting every teacher to right click on their register and display that column, which is a royal pain.

Yeah, after speaking with our SEN people that appears to be the case. They're very happy they can show columns for SEN, G&T, quicknotes etc but yes as you say, a global setting would I think be appreciated.

Once on supportnet we made up a random phrase to help remember the key combo required to get to settings screen (Alt + T S U - or whatever it is). It's relatively straight forward to write a vbscript to do it, assuming the users have reasonable permissions to run scripts on the local machine.
