GHOST and USB Sticks

Hi folks,

 

Does anyone know of a utility that will let me move files on a USB stick so I can use the stick to boot from without formating every time first.

 

I use USB sticks instead of floppys for Ghost but I want it be able to store the different drivers on the sticks but move them when I need to. Use a broadcom driver one minute and an Intel one the next. Ghost Boot Wizard is just a bit slow and if the utility ran from the USB stick as well then that would cut the need down for returning to base alot.

I do this. What I have done is create a folder on the disk called network drivers and within that folder are folders that contain the ghost drivers, eg Pro 100 / Dell D820 ect.

 

I made a bootable floppy for each driver i needed and the copied the net folder and config.sys to my network drivers folder.

 

Then when i need the different lan driver i just copy the the required net folder + config sys to the root of the usb drive.

then have the equivalently named folders on the usb stick. we made ours bootable by using the hp usb disk storage format tool.

 

so you get a boot menu, select the driver you want and away you go:) bear inmind you can only do this on usb sticks of a small size ( or small partition?) i think 128mb is the limit - plenty of room for as many drivers as you want.

We use that. It has drivers for every NIC we have, no messing around.

When its initialized and got an IP address, it runs a script that maps to a share and starts Ghost, and we go from there

 

Ive got all the stuff you need and full instructions if you want. It saves so much time this way

I think the problem is that you have not made the USB Pen drive into a bootable device.

 

I have created bootable USB Pen drives which can now boot all of our PCs and run GHOST ready for imaging. They also have the ability to boot to DOS with CD Support if required.

 

You have to use a utility called "Makebootable" to set up the pen drive before loading an operating system (e.g. Win98) and the files for booting different PCs as described by other posters.

 

There is also a utility on the HP website called "HP Drive Key Boot Utility" that does the same thing.

and a little prog for making images of floppys. (all my ghost disks are created from the images).
