Gongalong Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Hi folks, After not having a great deal of luck with YouSrc our ICT department are looking at using MIT's App Inventor. It isn't starting well, because App Inventor launches a Java application for editing code blocks. This works fine on a PC with directly connected Internet (no complex firewalls etc.), but does not work on our domain PCs. I have tried configuring Java via control panel to look at the proxy server, but no change in behaviour. Has anyone come across App Inventor and used it successfully on a school network, and did you have to do anything to configure it? TIA
Gongalong Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 We've narrowed it down to our firewall (Smoothwall). Currently waiting for their secondline support to look at it. Oddly the Smoothwall shows a loopback (127.0.0.1) being "forbidden", but the firstline tech didn't know how to resolve it.
Benner900 Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Have you ruled out this setting in Group Policy: Click We had the same problelm where the blocks editor wouldn't open. If you have Command Prompt disabled you need to have command prompt script processing set as "No" Ben 1
Gongalong Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 Not specifically ruled out, but on one of our Admin machines Blocks Editor does exactly the same thing. As soon as I eliminate the firewall (route through the upstream proxy) it opens without issue.
Gongalong Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 Just to update, after speaking to Smoothwall support I had to add localhost (127.0.0.1) to our Web Proxy exceptions, this stopped it trying to go through the Smoothwall it seems and it worked. The problem now is we don't have an upstream proxy any more, and now this seems to be broken again.
