earlyriser Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Something that's been driving me insane for a few weeks and wondering if anyone on here has a solution..... I want to manage the 'Language Bar' in Windows 7. When our students logon (to Windows 7x64 clients) I want them to see the language bar, and have a number of languages added to it. This is a request from our Languages department and was something that we did in Windows XP with the default user profile. We aren't using profiles in Windows 7 however. We have 'volatile' users that are removed when they logout. The main method I've been trying to use revolves around populating these 2 registry keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF\LangBar HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload My understanding is that the first key controls the visibility and appearance of the language bar, and the second key controls the keyboard languages that are available. I've tried a number of ways of implementing these keys (Logon scripts, Group Policy Preferences, ADM Files) but none of them have worked. The issue that we are having is exactly as documented here but unfortunately the solution doesn't work. I think it's to do with the timing of when the registry keys are being implemented, and that it's too late for it to take effect on the users session. So has anyone got this to work, or does anyone have any other alternatives? Seems like such a simple thing but....
earlyriser Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 I'm assuming by the lack of replies that either I'm mad for trying to get this to work, or that nobody knows how? :-)
ShuttleBill Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 We're just doing builds for Win7 now. Running into same issue. I'll post with any developments I find.
MordyT Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 May or not help, we set the languages for the bar in the thick image. Problem solved.
Jon88 Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Sorry to drag up an old post but Any luck with this? Languages just came to us requesting Chinese keyboards added to both labs I've also been down the route of chasing Reg entry's but still nowhere. We tried setting this then re-sysprep'ing but seems sysprep just wipes everything out? MordyT are you setting anything specific for the Language Bar in sysprep? Thanks.
MordyT Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Nope. Set language, capture with MDT as always.
earlyriser Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Sorry to drag up an old post but Any luck with this? I didn't ever solve this unfortunately. The registry key method that I mentioned doesn't work and it's definitely due to the timing of when the registry keys are implemented, which is too late for it to affect the users settings. Anyone else with suggestions on how to manage the language bar in Windows 7 greatly appreciated
