[sims] SIMS - best way to produce video or help sheets for teachers

We use SIMS extensively for tracking and reporting across KS3, 4 and 5. I have been asked to develop help sheets and/or videos for teachers as they find it too hard and don't do what they are meant to.

Any suggestions on what software to use would be welcome and get lots of thanks as well.

SIMS have quick reference sheets in the help documentation that goes through most day to day stuff, with screen shots etc.

 

Videos a good idea - however be aware that you might spend alot of time making them with few staff using them!

99/100 teachers won't bother reading or watching it. You'd be better off using the documentation from Capita.

I've had really good success with videos. You have to make them accessible and then always direct people to them. Sure, some people don't bother, but mostly if it's a choice of quickly watch this video or wait two hours until i'm free, some of the good ones at least try.

 

It's good for short tasks, and to be honest, i even use them myself for tasks i forget how to do, especially when we moved to Win7 and i was still on XP but all users needed help on 7. I watched the video while talking them through tasks.

 

I used to use Macromedia Captivate which is really good. Though you can get the same results with WINK

Or even Microsoft's Screen Recorder if you want more of a realtime video.

Bandicam is good for recording.You can also record mic sound if you were planning on adding some step by step chat too. Edited June 18, 2013 by Rawns

We also have good success with videos, schools have given positive feedback. We create these in Adobe Captivate.

 

Keep an eye on giveawayoftheday.com as they have given away several screen capture software packages on there if you have no/limited budget

I believe that one was Captivate as it's about 5 years old, and that's what i used at my old school. All the new ones are done in WINK, and it's not much different.

I can put an example up if you need, but they are mostly Windows features. I've got a stack of them.
