Rawns Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 (edited) For info, Capita have posted two documents on SupportNet around the SQL 2012 migration. It makes interesting reading. Resource ID's in the quote below: SQL 2012 MIgration Planning Advice I have posted two documents to assist with planning and implementing the SQL 2012 migration that I would strongly recommend that anyone planning to migrate to SQL2012 should read. The first is called 'SQL Migration Planning Guide' (resource id: 21113) and it details our recommended timescales for implementing the SQL migration dependent on the software installed at a site. The second is called 'SQL 2012 Migration Frequently Asked Questions' (resource id: 21101) and it provides additional advice and information to support you with the SQL2012 migrations. Regards, Jon Annoyingly, seems SOLUS3 is going to be a separate migration from the SIMS, FMS and Discover tools: Q. I need more information on the SQL 2012 migration with SOLUS 3 A. We have kept the SQL 2012 migration of the SOLUS 3 system outside of the SQL 2012 Migration tool in order to maintain security and we will be releasing the SOLUS 3.6 update in order to support the migration. SOLUS 3.6 will fully support SQL 2012 and it will contain functionality that enables you to migrate your SOLUS 3 system to a new server and enables the SOLUS 3.6 agents to redirect to the new server with minimal intervention. The SOLUS 3.6 release is not part of the SIMS 2013 Summer Release and is anticipated to be made available in August 2013. Edited June 13, 2013 by Rawns 2
vikpaw Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) This might be useful for the inevitable questions that will crop up later PLEASE NOTE THIS REFERS TO AUTOMATIC MIGRATION AVAILABILITY - NOT SUPPORT DATES. You can migrate manually earlier. These timeframes are outlined in the diagram below.

Product SIMS Release

Summer 2013 Autumn 2013 Spring 2014

SIMS X

FMS X

SOLUS3.6 X*

Discover X

SLG X*

InTouch X

X Migration Automated X* Migration process provided outside of the SQL Migration Utility The above table outlines the recommended approach to migrating to SQL2012, however, as stated above, if you want to migrate sooner than is recommended please read the FAQ sheet on SupportNet (resource ID: 21101) for more details on how you could do this. Rawns Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 It's going to be fun for sites with a mixture of the above packages! eg, all of them!
superfletch Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) While I'm sure the information given in vikpaw post is the correct information (as I've read that article and it is the one aimed specifically at SQL Migrations) the Capita Pre-Release note for Summer 2013 says this: "This release is fully supported on SQL2012 for SIMS, FMS, Discover, SLG, Solus3.6 and InTouch." Basically saying Discover will be supported on SQL 2012 from Summer. I guess this implies it might work at any rate.... ....bit of testing against the Waters Edge Database anyone? Capita Documentation 21036 The left hand and the right hand... Edited June 17, 2013 by superfletch
vikpaw Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 If you use SOLUS 3 or SLG then yes, otherwise just wait for the latest X you can. For me, that's summer. )

jbutlin Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 How have people handled the mix of Solus 3 and SQL 2012 so far? All our schools are currently running SQL 2008 - would it be better to upgrade them all to SQL 2012 first and then install Solus 3 afterwards? Just wondering how other support units have done it. Any advice would be appreciated! thanks
Ghostgame Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 If you have not installed S3 already I would wait until after you have done the migration. It just means you then don't have to change all the settings afterwards and then use the tool in S3 to migrate the S3 database as well. 1
jbutlin Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Thanks a lot, that is what I suspected but wasn't sure! cheers
jbutlin Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 anyone taken the plunge and migrated yet? How does the redirection service work? I will stop hijacking this thread with annoying questions now.
