Converting from Gas to electric central heating

Has anyone converted form Gas to electric central heating our Boiler is playing up and it looks like we cannot get a boiler grant. So I am wondering about going all electric for heating as we can get the hot water done and the main rooms and then fit the other heaters at a later date.

 

Anyone done this?

What sort of cost are you looking at for that compared to a boiler replacement?

ive got electric panel heaters and i would not recommend them to anyone they heat up an area of about 6ft round them

Don't do it - we lived in a flat which had electric storage heaters and it was a nightmare. We were always cold in the evenings because the heaters had given out all their heat in the daytime when no-one was home, and we were spending an absolute fortune on electricity - because they are expensive to run and we ended up having to supplement with standalone electric heaters at night.

 

Gas central heating all the way - might be expensive initially, but it's the way to go.

Thirded. Unless you live in an exceptionally well insulated, small house, don't go for night storage.

 

A new combi boiler halved my gas bill a few years back, in an exceptionally cold winter. It did replace a gas fire/back boiler thing.

And with a combi - you get as much hot water as you want, when you want it - not spend hours cursing the person who used all the hot water in the immersion tank!

I actually found a combi useless it either cold or comes out red hot!!

The hot out will come out to whatever temp it's set on the controls on ours, yes there is a bit of cold to start with but other than that as many hot baths as I need ahh radox

 

We had also had a back boiler fireplace replaced with a combi after the flue collapsed cost about £1800 all in for the complete install.

Mine was about that too. Included moving from the living room to the kitchen, upping supply pipe to 22mm, and a full flush and inhibitor on refilling.

I guess the idea is that you mix some cold water in with it when its too hot....sigh....you're not a teacher are you?
