Ultrabooks downgrade

Hi everyone,

 

Are the any ultrabooks that can be downgraded to windows xp?, it just a thought for something and i've been looking around but nothing so far. I have a idea (yes it's a bad) of using a laptop trolley (told you it was bad!!) but I want something like a ultrabooks small powerful and no cd drive.

Do you really wanna be putting new XP machines in? Support is ending for them in under a year...

Yes I do, we currently are stuck on xp but there are plans to move to windows 7 by next summer, there is a reason why I want to do this but I don't want to get into details about (sorry if that sounds abit rude of me), I'm just wondering if there are such laptops that can be downgraded.

Next summer, that means there is a period you will be running on a insecure OS. There's us working from Migrating from 7 to 8

 

You will struggle to find anyone that will sell unltrabooks with XP support.

Any of the big players (HP, Lenovo, Dell, Fujitsu) will generally support XP on business/professional/enterprise range laptops. The box will come with Win 7/8, but driver sets will be available online. Industry uses old OS versions for a very long time indeed, some big corporates make school IT policies look positively dynamic.

This issues more specifically with Ultrabooks are that (a) they don't tend to be a volume supply product and (b) the whole spec postdates the death of XP.

Windows 7 can be managed by early server versions (2003 here for example) and a generic Win 7 PC to run the GP Console.

For very little effort you are potentially creating a long term nightmare for yourself.

 

Obviously without your full info, I'm assuming you're running some specialist XP only software for example?

Sorry, I've been very very very angry all damn day about our school network upgrade and the choice SLT have made and that tablets are more important that having a secure O/S. Now I just want to get back to what I like and that is fixing problems and doing random stuff on FROG. One problem at we have at the moment is that one of our subject leaders needs a computer room but there isn't space for one and I don't want the school paying out to re-kit a room with crap ISIS desks and more computers, all I really want to do (which I think is a bad idea) is a laptop trolley with thin laptops with good spec's and without cd drive and that why I thought Ultrabooks but I just really want a laptop without a cd drive so the kids can't break it and it not to be a netbook. Are there any options like that? it is important (annoyingly so) for it to be downgrade able to xp cause of current software. Once again sorry I'm still very very very angry and I hate being angry

Yes. The Dell Latitude 6430u Ultrabook has XP drivers (although you will have to buy the ultrabooks with Windows 7 Pro or 8 Pro pre-installed and install XP yourself).
