I'm about to buy SQL 2012 for our sims server but I don't know if we need to buy the extra expensive no cals required version!

We currently have the MS EES agreement but I can't find out if that includes SQL cals.

Does anyone know if it does?

Thanks

I presume you're looking at SQL 2012 Standard? If yes, you can buy per processor core or per server and CALs as before. Get a price for both to work out which is more cost effective for you.

Bear in mind it's common to have servers with 2, 4, 8 cores or more these days :)

I'm not sure either, but if you called up a local licensing company they should be able to tell you.

You'll have to let us know at what point buying per core is more cost effective than per server with CALs. I suspect per core is going to be relatively high.

It doesn't.

When purchasing, you can license per device or on EES per FTE, so pick which works out more cost effective. If you have an FTE of 100 and 50 devices, in some instances you may still find it cheaper to license the 100 FTE rather than the 50 devices.

Explore all options! Drop me a PM if you want to know where I purchased mine from. Pricing was very good and supplier went above and beyond to make sure I got exactly what was needed.
