Windows 8 Pro on Lenovo Tablet - proxy with apps issue

Hi

 

We are currently trialing a windows 8 tablet from lenovo with windows 8 pro. We have configured the proxy as normal in IE settings. But this is not picked up by the metro apps. Is there a way we can set them to use a proxy? I have tried changing it in GP under computer configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Network Isolation > Internet proxy server for apps but no luck.

 

Anyone had any experience of this?

 

Our proxy is controlled by the LEA so we don't really have much control over it. It doesn't use authentication just needs the proxy and port.

i think if you set up your servers to do wpad proxy settings it works

if i remember correctly we used admin rights CMD netsh -> winhttp -> Set Proxy 123.456.7.8:91:01 but using your proxy then restart the computer (you must restart for the settings to apply) netsh -> winhttp -> reset proxy restores it back to no proxy. also if you use windows update services you need to add that as a exception else the computer will not pick up updates from the server. I tried it a while ago and found the metro apps wouldn't download even with a wpad setup. Since then we have a transparent proxy which got around the problem.

I was testing Win 8 on our school network, we have authenticated proxy and have same problem as you have.

I spoke to Microsoft Win 8 guy at Victoria Office he informed me Yes there is problem with "Metro" not going throw System proxy (IE Proxy) and fix is on it's way (Windows 8.1 BLUE)
