the preview is now live but I can't get on lol

If you have a TechNet subscription, it's much faster downloading it through that.

The link keeps downloading the RT version on my machine

Windows8-RT-KB2849636-x64.msu? If you install that update, you should be able to download the 8.1 Preview through the Windows Store after you have rebooted (although it's probably not a good idea to do that on your home PC). :)

It doesn't look like the ISO files are available through your link yet.

Yeah, it seems there are lots of people having issues if they are using the en-gb version of W8 or have Media Center - I have both :(

There's a fix floating around online that involves manually installing the update package (which simply enables you to download 8.1 from the Store app) using DISM, but it doesn't work. It does add the option to the Store, but it won't download. Looks like I'll just have to be patient!

I've got 8.1 up-and-running in a VM using the ISO from TechNet. I'm not going to risk installing it on a real PC just yet. :)

The only thing 2008R2 added to printing was headaches! Going to 64bit didn't help.

NT -> 2000 -> 2003 we had no problems at all with printers. 2008 was a nightmare.

And 5 years on I still have problems with 64 bit printing. If it does not install first time then its 'BAM' IP printer for you using the 64 bit driver installed locally.

So, it seem Microsoft have shunned GB with this preview, we're not on the supported language list so we can't install it. The official line is to wait for the ISO and install the US version, though this will mean losing any apps we already have installed. Nice one M$! Well done! ¬_¬

Yeah it's not the end of the world just irritating because it rules out the store update option for my test environment now so I have to wait for the ISO #FirstWorldProblem

I found it interesting actually that they've gone with update via Store rather than WSUS, backs up the theory that they're going the Apple route of regular purchased updates to the OS

Another thought just came to mind: can you push/withhold Store updates like you can WSUS or is this going to be another W8 "feature" we have to find a workaround for?

you can certainly blacklist (and i think) whitelist store apps but its not something ive looked into i just turn the store off (dosent work behind lln anyway)

Downloaded it via Technet this morning. The interface is still as shockingly sh**e as it was before, or so it seems. Not had a chance to have a proper play yet.

and technets pro the link that says wait seems to be enterprise

It wasn't obvious where to download it from within Technet at first. But if you go to the main home page, then click on Subscriber Downloads, it's then obvious where to grab it. It's listed as Windows Client 8.1 Preview NEW!
