one way mirroring a folder

can anyone think of a way of scheduling this. I have a bunch of files on a different domain (differnt vlan as well but i cant alter that) both servers can see each other but for some reason the link is slow (again as i have no access to change anything there its just something i have to live with). What i want to do is schedule a copy of a folder from server a to server b such that any changes on a get sent accross but any change on server b is just ignored. Synctoy should be able to do this with echo but i just cant get it to schedule. Robocopy will do a 2 way mirror but thats not ideal. Any ideas?

When you say gets ignored on server B. If a new file is created do you want that removed or kept when you do the Sync.

 

It should be possible with Robocopy.

effectively server b want to be a direct copy of a any changes on b can be thrown away as useless

ok easy then with robocopy

 

robocopy "\\server-a\share" "\\server-b\share" /mir

 

save it as a batch file as a scheduled task.

 

Do a few tests first to make sure its exact.

Why wouldn't robocopy do a one way mirror? Just set it as a scheduled task from server to server b with the relevant flags and it should do the job, shouldn't it?

i thought /mir copied files in both directions?

/mir should only keep the target mirrored with the source and not copy things the other way.

There are websites/tutorials that say otherwise but I think they are plain wrong. Give it a test?

just had a play with some dummy files and /mir seems to delete any changes to folder b anyway so that works fine. i was sure /mir copied both ways but oh well

Could you do this with DFS replication? I think that would also use various tools to compress the data stream and send chunks as bandwidth allows (and I think you can schedule replication).

different domains i dont have much access to the other domain. Robocopy looks like it should work

 

i just want to copy the sims setup folder to the curric network as over the link it can take 40 mins to update which as it always fails to update automatically is a right pita
