Meraki and YouTube

We have a batch of 16 IPads managed with Meraki. Occasionally a teacher wants to be able to use the YouTube app on these IPads, I have installed the free app and it works fine, however the rest of the time we want to block access to this app. In the Meraki profile there is an option to Allow use of YouTube which I have unchecked however this does not seem to affect YouTube on the IPads (either the app or going to the website in Safari). The profile says it is up to date in Meraki Dashboard and I have also tried removing the profile completely and reinstalling it with no change. Has anyone been able to successfully use this option?

We don't use Youtube on our iPads so I'm not certain on this one. It could be that this option is still there from before iOS 6 when YouTube was included as part of iOS. But now it's a separate app it may not be possible for Meraki to block access to it.

I suspect Jerred91 is correct - it's still on there from when YouTube was included in os5

 

Can you block it at firewall / filtering level ?

You may need to give the teacher access to the Meraki dashboard so they can turn it on themselves

 

But yes, Jarred is correct. That setting applies to when Youtube was pre-installed by Apple.

Just looking at Meraki and just attended a webinar, so this might not be gospel but it might help. There is a setting in the wireless point level 7 filtering if you select music and videos you can block that access point using the traffic shaping and filtering.

 

how does Meraki live up to its reputation ? is it any good?
