Pretty much agree with the article. Too expensive for the general public. Why would a geek want to buy a pc with a big gfx card, big monitor etc and then sit down stairs on a 5 inch screen.

Screw the console, the real point of interest is Steam offering a streaming service!

But only a tiny handful of Steam games work with shield and if you have a smartphone or tablet you can do the same thing for under £10.

Controls are important. Put it this way, when GTAIII was launched on Android, I bought it. I then couldn't manage to get past the end of the bridge... The controls were near enough impossible to handle for me.

 

Some nice physical buttons, like a D-Pad or something would do the job nicely.

You can do all that for around $300 less then the shield. The app to stream your PC to your phone/tablet is around £2, the app to use a Xbox or playstation controller is £1.65. The controllers them self’s are dirt cheap and you have a massively bigger games catalogue this way. You can even get controllers with mounts on the top for your phone and phones have better screens then the shield device. I just do not see the market or point of the shield device. The type of people who would want it would have a smartphone or tablet.

Anyone using speakers while out and about with that thing deserves to be shot anyway - so drop 100-230 quid off that right away... ;)

It can't be any worse than kids wearing those stupidly expensive Dr Dre Beats headphones playing music at 100+ dB! In fact, you had better add £350 onto the total for a pair of those too. :D

The general public is clearly not the target market. The Shield is a niche device designed to appeal to a small minority of gamers with money to burn.

A true geek would already have the PC with a big gfx card and monitor. :)

No the "target market" is other manufacturers to showcase their new chip. I was simply stating that I agree with a statement in the article and that if nvideas intended market is indeed geeks that it will be a very small market indeed which brings me back to "their target market is manufacturers".

 

I must have missed my visits from the gaming PC fairy as I had to buy my pc, and upgrade it, and buy another, and upgrade that...
