Hi

Some little blighter has set a password on the HD of 2 dell inspiron 1012 mini netbooks. I have called dell and they gave me a code which was no good. I attempted to image the drive from a good netbook but cant get passed this password protect. Even swapping drives into another netbook was no use as it is on the drive itself. This is the password for the HDD and not a bios password. I dont wont to have to replace drives if possible and would be greatful if anyone can help.

Thanks

We had this a number of years back on a few Dell machines and the Dell rep I talked to had a utility where he entered the service tag of the machine and some other info and it created a backdoor password for the hard drive - which when entered allowed us to change or disable the HDD password and did it that way. I'm not aware of any other way other then that or replacing the drive(s)
