rush_tech Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Do any schools use password manager programs? If so which ones?
EduTech Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I Use KeePass if that is the kind of thing your referring to. http://keepass.info/ James. 1
sonofsanta Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 KeePass. Easy, encrypted, can be opened by multiple people at once, can handle those multiple people making changes, can generate passwords. Also free. (Personally I use LastPass but that doesn't suit a support department's workflow) 1
LiamH Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I use LastPass for most of mine, its all cloud based so follows me around which is nice. For work related things we just have a truecrypt drive, gives us a bit more flexibility with being able to throw anything in there.
JJonas Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I use LastPass for most of mine, its all cloud based so follows me around which is nice. I thought about that, but it being cloud based bothered me, if the cloud password get compromised then anyone could have your passwords. At least if it is stored on your own pc you should be able to control who can access them. Does make password management a bit more difficult though.

Keepass does have a portable aplication, that + dropbox could be helpful. The cloud issue isnt too bad i dont think, they store the data encrypted anyway and its all linked in with my google authenticator too
jmak Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Does anyone use a password system as a Heath Robinson SSO system? I was thinking of installing Lastpass plugins across the school - possibly just to manage things like web-sites where we have a single log-in for the whole school, so that our (infant) kids can work independently. Maybe staff could use individual accounts to give access to the Office 365 deployment I'm working on. I'm still trying to persuade the powers that be that our kids can manage individual log ins - they do at home when they use the VLE, but can't manage in school... Trying to work out if password manager would help. I think where we have users regularly using a variety of computers and they don't have their own USB flash drives, the web-based managers will work better. I think I prefer Keepass for personal use though.
