I'm in the middle of recrafting a bunch of our group policies ready for moving to Windows 7. However, I want a slight bit of backwards compatibility for a short while which requires me to put in some settings for IE 8/9 etc...

I have set up an Internet Explorer 8 & 9 item in the right place in GPP, and gone through and populated some settings. However, when I hit the LAN Settings bit, to tick the 'Automatically detect settings' box, its greyed out.

Why can't I do this?

I'd stick to GPOs rather than GPPs for IE7, 8 and 9.

Bah, that means I have to switch sessions to a different machine with that policy in place.

In theory all settings can be part of the same GPO, just some applicable to IE7, 8 and 9 and others IE10. GPOs just work, where I've found GPP is somewhat flakey with older browsers.
