Interesting, we have setup a few trials of this type of thing but for nearly free, that's even better.

 

I think I will give it a go next week, I'll have my technician start it tomorrow and see then i'll let you know if we did it and how successful we were.

From a brief skim, I see no reason you couldn't do this on an Openindianna or OmniOS installation rather than Solaris. I wonder if there's some poking you could do to allow auth against AD and direct to folder based on AD username...

I don't have webdav...or even a server in the office to play with :(

 

A Raspberry Pi should do it - even just a basic board with a 32GB SD card would give you a decent amount of storage, comparable to commercial offerings (no RAID, mind), and the rest is simply a case of installing Apache and enabling WebDAV.
