cpjitservices Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Does anyone know of a Console whereby I can search a machine name and bring up a VNC Console ?? I used to have a Novell network where I used to work, and if I got a call that needed remote support it was fine because the member of staff would tell me which building they were in, department, and which room from there I could pinpoint which machine he/she was at. It was just handy, I could even search Username and find the machine they were logged into all in the same console then just hit the VNC button and that was it we were in. I have yet find anything like this for Windows, admittedly this was all done in Novells ConsoleOne, Just wondered if anyone knew of anything similar for Windows. TIA.
6Foot2 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Will this do the trick? Link: Skeep VNC Console http://www.skeep.co.uk/VNC/images/Main.png
cpjitservices Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 I use that to deploy VNC but if I try to do anything else with it it throws errors at me and closes.
6Foot2 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I have it working but only for some of my stations [don't know why it doesn't work at other (identical) stations] It is a while since I last worked on it and as we are getting a new network soon with a paid for solution I haven't bothered with it much. This post: Link: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/downloads/19145-skeep-vnc-console.html#post200499 has fixed a problem with a path error for at lease one Edugeeker. The post below that by @FatBoy invites comments for forwarding to the programmer [but that was posted in 2008 ] HTH.
cpjitservices Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 Thats the error I'm getting, I do like the program and have tried to do everything I can to fix it. It appears when I click any of the machine groups on the left hand side.
FatBoy Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Hi Guys, The left hand bit of OUs works for me but then the tools was developed on our network... there maybe some tips on how to fix it on the main tread if you have a read though, @TomClay and myself have tried helping a few people lately and there is a lot of info on how to get it working correctly Thanks FB 1
ADMaster Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 +1 for skeep, although I have slightly customized mine to offer remote assistance and remote desktop. 1
Marci Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) Am just doing it all via Microtik's TheDude... network map / snmp monitoring / custom actions. Right click a server on the map, set it up as an action and it's in the context menu (along with choices of rdp / ssh / telnet / web interface depending on the device / services configured) Just takes some work to get it all setup to work for you (submaps for rooms, which devices are actively monitored, which default to host name access vs IP access, etc. it's as powerful as you choose to make it... but I recommend ignoring all it's discovery features and do it all by hand) Edited May 1, 2013 by Marci 2
