Hi all.

Just put 4 HP3800 colour lasers on my printserver.

When one of them gets turned off I get this message on the printserver screen, then the printer wont print again untill i click OK.

Message reads:

The print spooler was unable to connect to your printer. This can be caused by your printer being turned off, the cable being unplugged, or being connected to a VPN, which will block access to your network.

Your documents will print then the printer becomes available.

Any suggestions ?

All of our HP laserjet printers are set up like this, from memory...

  • Add printer
  • Local printer (NO Auto detect)
  • Create new port - "Standard TCP/IP Port", Enter IP...
  • Choose driver
  • Share...

We have about 20 HP printers from 1010's to 4650's.. the 3800's are the only ones that do this :(
