imunro01 Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I'm needing to migrate some big shared folders form one server to another as part of our upgrade plan from 2003 to 2012. Within the folder structure, a lot of the folders have special permissions set, yet a straight copy does not save those. Is there an easy way of bulk copying that data whilst retaining the permissions?
Chuckster Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Use the Backup Utility found in 2003 to backup your data and then use the restore function to restore to a mapped drive that's from the 2012 server. It's how I did it when I had to transfer some data between 2003 to 2008 R2. Alternatively there's Robocopy, though I've never quite used it extensively other than to mirror filles. 1
dave.81 Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 When i've had to do large amounts of data i've used robocopy, means you can maintain file permissions etc etc. 1
FragglePete Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Beyond Compare (Scooter Software: Home of Beyond Compare) is one that we've used in the past. Pete
imunro01 Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 Thanks guys, Robocopy does exactly what I need!
