Packet Tracer

Hey guys, feel like i haven't been on for ages. Having a few wobbles but i still loves ya!

 

Anyway, one of my "wobbles" is my uni course in which im struggling. Networking is unfortunately not for me and this is obviously a major part of a cisco course! HAHA!!

 

So can anyone help me work out why i get an error when i try "Customer(config)#ip http server"?

I have a feeling that http server is not a valid command on the routers included in packet tracer... Cisco has this horrible habit of cutting out some of the commands.

 

One thing you could try from enable mode is

show ip http server status

 

if this command does not work then the HTTP web interface for the router can not be enabled.

Im pretty sure that all config in packet tracer is done from the command line, other than with the simulated consumer routers.

 

If its the syntax of the command that isnt quite right you can type a partial command with a question mark after and the router will list all valid commands with that prefix.

e.g. ip h? shows all commands beginning with IP h

I Use to teach CCNA, and banned Packet Tracer, it's a simulator and has loads of commands missing and I can guarentee that is one of the ones missing, the routers in PT don't actually run CiscoIOS it's all just a simulator but not a very good one, for the real experience use GNS3 and add an IOS image and do it that way, at the academy we had GNS3 on all the machines and used it regular... Far better than packet tracer!

 

I always said to the Students... Dont use Packet Tracer unless it tells you to do so for certain labs as there isn't a full command set!!
