creese Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 We have never really supported FMS, as it is not widely used in our schools. A school that uses it has asked us to quote for moving Staff info from FMS to Personnel. Can anyone advise on time and process? Thanks.
vikpaw Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Not sure how much is stored in FMS. Can't see where staff info is. Apart from maybe as part of salary, but we don't use it for that. I would suggest it's a manual process, so one at a time if you want to store contracts which is the best way to manage them. SIMS is finicky about dates and terms / contracts so i'd say it needs to be done one at a time. Once you get the hang of it, it doesn't take too long. Maybe 5-10 mins if you have all the info in front of you. There may be some setting up of lookups / parameters initially. Bear in mind we don't have any returns to do so don't have to use it properly. I don't think there is any automation, but at the basic level, the bare minimum info you need are name, gender, date of birth, possibly staff date. You could whack that in to get them a list of staff, at 1 minute each. Sorry, you probably know all about the SIMS side.
creese Posted April 20, 2013 Author Posted April 20, 2013 Thanks. I'm trying to get clarification of exactly what they want. I arrived at me through 2 other people.
jayemm Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I didnt think there was any staff information in FMS either. Maybe they want the personnel information into FMS, it is used for salary projections and budgeting.

I think someone there is confused, or the message is confused.
PhilNeal Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 There is no staff base data in FMS. FMS draws the personnel data contracts etc and calculates salary commitments. Payroll data can also be imported to check projections against accruals.
creese Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 Thanks Phil. Having been 'away' from SIMS for nearly a year, I just wanted to make sure I was correct in my thinking. I'm just waiting for clarification of exactly what they want to achieve.
creese Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 It looks like someone got their wires crossed. The school wants to copy Personnel details TO FMS, not from. I reading through manuals now as in 10 plus years I have never touched FMS.
vikpaw Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Just moved your post it was in another FMS thread. It doesn't store much data, only salary data right? 1

Hi The connection from SIMS to FMS is a setting in FMS Tools | Star 7 settings in here your set the path to SIMS Directory - I've done a few installations of FMS 2nd databases where Academies use database selector but not actually set up an FMS database. We have a separate team for that, who may be able to help if you get stuck. Vania 1
