X-13 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Shouldn't it be Hard Disk? and not Hard Disc? Ben Etymology-Man, to the rescue! I would assume "disc" is correct due to it coming from the Latin word "discus"... Though "disk" is generally used for magnetic storage, while "disc" is used for optical media.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 I was always taught that it was correct to use disc for anything IT related Anyhow, disc is a much nicer word to look at...
CESIL Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 As I understand it the reason for the use of disk in connection with computers is similar to the use of program rather than programme ie they are American versions that became common once computers started to become more common. For the same reason I am forced to use color rather than the correct colour when programming! Apparently disk was the original word used in English until a fashion for ascribing Latin origins to words made disc more appealing.
