fiza Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Is there an easy way to bunch similar equipment together so that they pick up IP addresses in a range. Ie I want all computers to pick up addresses from 1-50, printers to be 51-100. I know I could reserve IPs but is there an easier way?

Here we have printers on a 172.16.2.x range, with each printer set with a static IP, then a 172.16.0.x range for static IPs for servers and then the DHCP range set to 172.16.7.x to 172.16.10.x for PCs to pick up, if that's any help! 1

I reserve IP addresses for our printers which are excluded from distribution by DHCP, but we currently only have 6 printers in school so its easy to manage. Everything else gets it IP from DHCP. Another possibility (if all your PCs are running Win 7 or above) might be to use an IPv6 scope for your PCs and IPv4 for your printers, but I've not tried it - just a thought...
sparkeh Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Can I just ask how/what this will help? You may know that a device has an IP in a range but still won't what IP without doing some checking. If you are thinking about management here, reservations/static IPs excluded from scope are easier right?
