Kyocera printer full black toner showing as empty

I'm having this problem with black toners on our FS-C5150DN printers. A black toner runs out, I put in a brand new, kyocera manufactured cartridge, the printer goes through its loading toner routine and then tells me that K needs replacing. If I look on the printer's web page it tells me that black toner is at 0% as well. A full black cartridge weighs 220g and an empty one 150g. These cartridges which are being shown as empty are up around 220g.

 

Has anyone had this problem with Kyocera printers? Googling the problem is no help because all I get is page after page of sites wanting to sell me cartridges.

I had a FS-C5100DN do exactly the same thing, needed an engineer out to replace a part and upgrade firmware to fix it.

Hi,

We do a lot of these Kyocera printers .

 

Its a simple toner feed problem

 

 

.... check the gear on the cartridge ( its a triangle thing) is in the correct position to engage in the printer.

..... at the other end of the cartridge check the door opens on the toner exit.

I had quite a few problems with our FS-C5150DN printers, I even blogged about the most ridiculous string of incidents, but this is a new one for me. Have noted the above in case I ever see it on the one we still have!

Unlucky man !!

Its rare but sometimes the chip fails on the tk580 toners telling the machine the cartridge is empty and stops it printing.

 

The printer still works ok without it but wont work if it thinks its empty ( you lose the toner level gauge thats all )

 

Its hidden under the yellow sticker on the base of the cartridge , just pull it off it may be the fix.

Sorry for resurrecting this, but it is a top result on google and this might help someone. I had the same problem with brand new K toner cartridge for Kyocera TASKalfa 265ci.

 

TLDR: The RFID board responsible for reading toner cartridge chips needed to be replaced

 

Basically each toner has a chip sticker that has a count of how many times it has been used. After certain preset amount it will report toner empty even if it still has some toner left, that's normal. What is not normal is when it is reporting toner empty with brand new toner cartridge. The error was reading: Toner is empty [K]. I also tried to remove the cartridge completely or remove just the chip sticker, the result was the same as with brand new. The RFID board that reads and modifies count in those chips is a strip located under the toners. It could be accessed without any tools. Once I replaced that one, the new toner got recognised and calibrated. The board costs around 70+ GBP new but I bought the whole Kyocera compatible printer for parts for 60 and got the board from there. There are many models of Kyocera that use the same parts, and there were about 15 other models that used the same RFID board, so I was lucky to find one that has been smashed and sold for parts. BTW, some repair guy that came quoted 1,300!

Also sorry for reresurrecting this, however it literally was the top result of my google search result as well. I had the same issue with a cyan toner cartridge for a Kyocera M6530cdn.

 

TLDR: Never shut down printer during new toner initialisation. If fails, put old toner back in. put new one back in. Verify.

 

Our issue was somewhat similar or different. Replaced the toner and waste toner bottle. The initialization took about 2 minutes with no end in sight. Restarted it. Initialisation was finished. Printed a test page. No colors. Printed the printer report / config. Cyan still 0%. Removed the cyan from the printer and put it back in, no initialization. After some restarts and verification attempts, we put back the old one, which gave us a message that it was not a genuine toner (for whatever bloody stupid reason) then initialisation started, a colored page came out that was waiting, then we placed in the new full toner and presto, it was recognized and working.

 

Also thx for having such a useful forum. I hope many more people will find there solution in here.

This may actually work for more than just Kyocera, but also HP, Oki, Konica Minolta and any other printer with such issues.
