File/Folder Archiving - File Server

Hello everyone,

 

We are looking at archiving all data in both user's home directories as well as our shared drives that is over 5 years old since it was last modified. The question is, what software could be used to archive the data or could RoboCopy suit our requirements.

 

We want to archive the "old" data off onto another server that has a 2TB DAS.

 

Any hints/ideas would be greatly received.

In my experience, archiving user files is not worth the effort - no matter how carefully you set the selection criteria you'll always find that someone has lost an important file that they simply have to have back now. You're best off simply increasing the live storage space available to users - 4TB drives are quite affordable now, a server with a 12TB array should cost under £1,000.
