Whats the difference between Ethernet Access Direct and Ethernet Access Direct Local Access

 

LA stands for Local Access. An EAD is a direct piece of fibre from one location to another within about 25 km. the LA variant must have one of its ends terminating at the telephone exchange. It's therefore cheaper than a normal EAD circuit.

 

We use this technology to form the last bit of our leased line services.

Sorry to resurrect but Google led me here! @SchoolsBroadband we are opening a primary in September and would like for it to utilize out internet connection, filtering etc, and have been recommended an EAD circuit, the new primary obviously has nothing at the moment so would need a fibre putting in, but our school currently has 1GB Virgin connection would this be used with the BT EAD or would we also need another fibre putting in?

Hi @denzal2k4,

 

you could use a BT EAD circuit or you could use a Virgin Media Ethernet Extension or an Ethernet Extension+ circuit. The Ethernet Extension circuit is Virgins equivalent to a BT EAD. Ethernet Extension+ works slightly differently by allow multiple circuits to terminate at one site via VLAN on a 1Gbit or 10Gbit bearer rather than have lots of bits of separate physical fibre.
