Using D-Link DGS-3120-24TC as Top Switch Issues

Hi,

 

I have installed a D-Link DGS-3120-24TC with the purpose of using it as a 'Top Switch', connecting all fibres into this switch along with main servers into Fibre SFP modules.

 

Having ploughed through manuals this switch does not want to connect to other switches so only deals with anything connected into itself. IP has been changed to match our network subnet. I have split the uplink of two other 3com switches to go through the D-Link, the two 3Coms communicate with themselves but the D-Link will not go out.

 

Anyone have any ideas on how to set these D-Link switches up?

Well I wouldnt Use D-Link products for anything fiber... I'd use HP/Cisco or Best Juniper.

 

What you need to do is some basic diagnostics... how do you mean when you say the D-Link wont communicate ? You say you have all your fibers connected into that switch whats at the other end of the fibers ? Do you use VLANs ?

Presumably (if you can) the 3Com and D-Link talk when connected via Ethernet but not Fibre? If that's the case then you need to check the Fibre modules are the same, for example 1000 SX SFPs which are the most common allowing short distance gigabit over Fibre. Of course the other possibility (and it happened to me once with a Cisco) that the SFPs I was supplied were duff and had to be changed.
