Kodak ESP 315C - cartridges don't have any staying power

About 18 months ago I bought a Kodak ESP315 C inkjet printer for home use - on the strength of the advert they were running back then (before they went into receivership) about having the best cost per page. Sadly that's not been my experience.

 

The cartridges are fine on first use but the colours have faded come to use it a week or so later and then in no time the darned things are showing as empty again. No fairies in the house doing printing overnight but it's like as if the ink is evaporating?
