Creating and image for deployment

Hi All,

 

I have fully setup an imac with what i want to be the base image with applications pre installed etc to deploy across the other macs we have on site, is there any way to create an image of that machine other that connecting up the mac with a firewire to a server and using target disk mode as apple recommends? it isnt entirely practical for me to setup in the server room and complete this motion. Any ideas?

I noticed in disk utility you can create a 'new image' is this the same type of image that i can use for deployment?
